About
Hailed for his “clean, pure tenor with ringing top notes,” American tenor Xavier Flory burst onto the stage in 2024 with his portrayals of Macduff in Macbeth (Shakespeare Opera Theatre), Tamino in Die Zauberflöte (No Strings Theatre), and Prince Karl Franz in The Student Prince (Toronto Operetta Theatre). In 2025, he will be a resident artist with Teatro Nuovo, make his role debut as Don José in Carmen (Palisades Opera), be the tenor soloist in Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde (Mahler Festival of Long Island), and give Lieder recitals in New York and Europe.
Xavier started his singing career as a soprano soloist with the Vienna Boys Choir, where he performed at the Wiener Staatsoper, with the Vienna Philharmonic, and under the batons of Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, and Riccardo Muti. He holds a double PhD in political theory from Columbia University and Sciences Po Paris, has been a fellow with the Andrea Mitchell Center for the Study of Democracy, and is on the faculty at the Bard Prison Initiative.
“He’s also a rather fine tenor with matinee idol looks and he can act. What more could one ask?”
“His rendition of the Prince’s Serenade was beautifully phrased with soaring top notes adding to the lushness of the melody, and his stature added to his princely presence onstage.”
